Free Live Scores WordPress Plugin For Your Website

Live Scores is an amazing and free WordPress plugin that you can easily install on your website. This review will cover the basic features it offers, how to install it, and some of the extra options it provides.

The WordPress Live Scores Plug-in gives you the option of tracking up to seven live sporting events. These include:

  1. Football (soccer)
  2. Tennis
  3. Basketball
  4. Ice Hockey
  5. American Football
  6. Baseball
  7. Handball

It’s a perfect addition for anyone running a sports-themed website. Live scores update almost automatically. Additionally, if you run a website with impression ads on it (ads that pay money each time they’re displayed), anytime a user updates your page, it’ll give you an extra impression.

Of course, the plug-in updates automatically, so users won’t have to refresh the page to update the scores. However, you can play around with the configuration as you see fit.

Those are just the basic options of the Live Scores plug-in, though. Here are some of the other fine features you’ll fine in this download.
Features

Easy to Read Organization

As mentioned above, you can play around with the Live Scores configuration. That’s because the WordPress plug-in allows you to select which scores you want to be displayed at any one time. When live, you can choose to show all the scores by checking the “Show All” tab at the top of the program.

What’s nice about the Live Scores plug-in is that it also allows you to weed out some of the dead scores (games that have already finished are haven’t started yet.) You can select an option that allows you to display only the games playing live. Of course, if none of the live action games interest you, you can choose between games that have already been played and games that haven’t started yet.

Sporting Variety

The Live Scores plug-in doesn’t really mess around when it comes to user customization. Because it offers live scores for up to seven sports, you can choose which ones you want displayed.

In sports that often have different leagues and countries involved, such as soccer, it’ll display team names, countries, and leagues. You can sort through these scores using any of these filters, which is a nice added bonus.

The scores are updated in real time, which means, if someone scores a goal halfway around the world, you’ll know about it within a few seconds. (After all, a brief delay between the goal being scored and an update is expected.) It’s not just with the major sports either. This feature applies to all seven that the plug-in covers.

Low-Bandwidth Solution

Some people pay for live-streaming subscriptions, which isn’t always available. Sometimes you’re on the road, at an airport, in a train station, at a restaurant, or someplace else where the WiFi connection isn’t always strong. This plug-in handles that problem seamlessly.

This app allows users to follow their sports without eating up too much of their data plans. It includes an automatic update feature that grabs bits of information when it can. So, if you’re traveling through an area where the service is off-and-on a lot of the time, the plug-in will update when it has service.

Best of all, the plug-in doesn’t have any costs associated with it, other than whatever your cell phone company, data plan package, or internet provider charge you for. The amount of information the actual plug-in receives and sends is minimal, comparable to what it might take to send a text. On your standard 3GB or 5GB data package, you could leave the plug-in on all 24 hours of the day updating live every few seconds and not have to think twice about going over your limit.

Appearance

The overall appearance is clean and simple. If you’re looking for something that’s going to impress people with extreme graphics and presentation, you might be looking for too much from any live updates plug-in.

Each score is wedged neatly under a color bar. (There are seven you can choose from and more of that information is below.) Inside the color bar, information on the league, group, and other vitals is included. Below the bar, you’ll find the teams playing. For example, if the Europa League is playing games, the two teams from Group A would be displayed under one bar.

On the far left, the time of the match is given, whether it’s about to start, has already finished, or is in play. The teams and the current score (if applicable) are given in the middle. Extra information about each match is given to the far right, although, this changes depending on which sport you’re currently following.

Download and Installation

Downloading is simple and it comes in a .Zip package. If you don’t already have software that can read and extract the files, Zip7 is a reliable and free source. Winrar or Winzip are also free archive software programs you can use. However, make sure you download it from a reputable website to avoid any bloatware or viruses.

After that, download the WordPress Live Scores Plug-in .Zip package. Select a folder where you’ll remember it. If you have a folder that you use for your website, consider creating a dedicated subfolder for you’re the plug-in files there. After you’ve downloaded the file, open it, and extract the files.

From there, you need to take the “live-scores” folder from your desktop and upload it to the “/wp-content/plugins/” directory on your WordPress website. Then, from the WordPress “Plugins” menu, activate the “WordPress SEO” plug-in. That should activate it. All you need to do after that is configure it from the “WP SEO Wizard” menu. If you have trouble finding it, check for it in your admin menu.
